DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES

DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES

SCRATCHED:

Sgraffito is an architectural ornamental technique used for decoration in plastering and wall covering, both outside and inside buildings. The term, of Italian origin (sgraffiare), applies both to the artisan action and to the resulting product.

Low relief technique giving color patinas in the background to highlight the elements in the center. Thanks to the physical-mechanical properties of lime mortar, it allows us to improve structural conditions and reinforces the building. These materials maintain a high level of sustainability since they are totally natural, harmless, such as limestone aggregates, lime or clay, and mineral pigments.

NATURAL PAINTS:

Natural paints are based on traditional techniques and produced by hand, composed of lime or clay along with natural pigments.

Between 2000 and 1400 BC the oldest examples of fresco painting were found and it was later developed in Greek and Roman times.

In the 20th century, the arrival of synthetic paints has reduced the use of natural paints. However, decades later the reputation of the former was affected by the health and environmental problems caused by their components.

Today, natural paint is being used again due to its properties of breathability, low electrostatic attraction, humidity regulation and the fact that it does not attract dust, allowing us to keep spaces healthy, harmless and odourless. They do not contain toxic particles that harm our health (VOCs and heavy metals)
